A Few (Hi)stories about French Illustration

In the aftermath of the massacre of editorial staff at the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in rue Nicolas-Appert in Paris and while a society in shock is looking for explanations of the January 7 massacre, the City of Paris is covered in personal commentary and statements. Recent events remain visible in the form of drawings, texts and other visual markings – often expressed in wordplay or visual wit, demonstrating the much-quoted will for freedom of speech and press and quite in the vein of the late cartoonists.

»We love books!« verkündete Phil Schiller, langjähriger Marketing-Vizepräsident von Apple anlässlich einer Keynote im Guggenheim-Museum im Januar 2012.
Er stellte eine neue Software für elektronische Schulbücher vor und zeigte dazu das Foto eines schweren Stapels abgewetzter Schulbücher. Auf einer Liste daneben stand, Bücher seien weder »portable, durable, interactive, searchable« noch »current«. Sie hätten aber »great content«. Das Tablet wäre dagegen absolut »portable, durable, interactive, searchable« und »current«, es fehle hier aber an »great content«.

»We love books!« announced Phil Schiller, long-standing Vice President of Marketing at Apple, during a keynote speech at the Guggenheim Museum in January 2012.
He was presenting some new software of electronic schoolbooks, showing a photo of a heavy stack of well-worn textbooks. On a list next to it were words that described books as neither »portable, durable, interactive, searchable« nor »current«. The list conceded that books have »great content«, though. The tablet PC, on the other hand, was labelled undeniably »portable, durable, interactive, searchable« and »current«, but suffering from a lack of »great content«.

Nach dem Kommunikationsdesign-Studium 1993 ging er nach Paris, Prof. Johannes Bergerhausen, Jahrgang 1965. Dort arbeitete er für so unterschiedliche Projekte wie für das Centre Pompidou, für Arbeitsloseninitiativen und bei den Gründern des Grafikerkollektivs Grapus, Paris-Clavel und Pierre Bernard. 1998 erhielt Johannes Bergerhausen das begehrte Stipendiat des Centre Nationale des Arts Plastiques. Aus dem geplanten Jahr in Frankreich wurden an Ende sieben.
